HOPEcamp: To help change our world

At the moment, it seems that a politics of division is on the ascendency. However, when times get tough, organised communities pull together rather than turning to hatred and division. That’s why, in these tough times, Operation Black Vote are happy to promote HOPE not hate’s HOPEcamp.

HOPEcamp is a four day residential event held in September, where community members will be developing strategic plans for building HOPE in their towns and cities.

If, like many others, your community is under strain and extremists are poised to exploit divisions: then HOPEcamp may well be right for you.

The event will bring people together, including from student, community, trade union and faith backgounds, with the aim of developing strategies for building power in their communities.

Over the four days participants will look at techniques that have been used by successful social justice campaigns to unite communities and build power.

  •  Creating social justice narratives
  •  Strategic choices
  •  Building alliances
  •  Organising for equality and inclusion
  •  Reacting to specific threats
  •  Mobilising your community

Many of these techniques have strong links to the American Civil Rights movement, but they can still be used today to win campaigns for social justice.

HOPE not hate will also be seeking to recruit six organising trainees from amongst those who attend. So not only could you learn new skills, but you might also be in the running for a job working for a social justice movement.
