OBV eXpress: The journey so far

in

With four dates gone and about ten more to go, the OBV eXpress is in full flow.

We began with a soft launch for the Chinese community during the Chinese new celebration - the Year of the sheep. The official launch on Windrush Square, Brixton went fantastically well, despite the heavens opening up for the whole three hours we were there. OBV eXpress rolled up at both East Street Market in Barking, and the following day in Ilford High Street.

Over these four events with the help of great media coverage, including Sky news, BBC, The New Statesmen, BEN TV, RT, The Voice and many more, literally hundreds of thousands have heard the message about making a declaration, through voter registration, that we demand to be listened to.

Our historic journey this week starts in Liverpool town centre, moves on to Wolverhampton on Thursday, heading back down to Mitcham football ground for our Fuse ODG concert on Friday. Some free tickets are still available at tickets@obv.org.uk, on Saturday campaigners join national Black church leaders to support their voter registration and manifesto campaign.

As many of you know, yesterday President Obama celebrated the Selma march in which Martin Luther King and others campaigned against restricted voting rights. He said “the struggle for voting rights and tackling race inequality continues.” He’s right, both here and there the need to have a democratic voice is fundamental to effectively tackling race inequality.

In the spirit of King and the Civil Rights campaigners, come and join us on our journey for greater social and racial equality.
