Hate-boss Nick Griffin visits Syria
Ever desperate to be in the spotlight and sow his seeds of hatred, BNP leader Nick Griffin is on a ‘fact-finding’ mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus. According to the Daily Telegraph and Daily Express, Mr Griffin is part of a European delegation, invited by President Assad, to inspect the-war-torn country in which an estimated 80,000-100, 000 people have been killed according to the UN.
Writing on Twitter- the BNP leader crossed from neighbouring Lebanon and said “Crossed border into Syria yesterday. Now in Damascus, which is busy, a modern, bustling city. Security rather like Belfast in troubles”.
A spokesman for Mr Griffin said that his presence in the country should not be seen as an ‘endorsement’ of the Syrian regime- the Telegraph reported. The spokesmen went on to say “He wants to ascertain just how many British citizens are fighting out there for the so-called Free Syrian Army and other elements opposed to Assad” according to the Daily Express.
Griffin also tweeted “Occasional explosions in distance but life in capital normal. Traffic busy, shops full of goods. Families out in sun.”
Despite his claims of normality, 14 people were killed in the Syrian capital- following twin suicide bombings at a police station. Despite ‘not’ endorsing the Syrian regime, Mr Griffin said “Why turn stable secular state into Iraq-style hell of sectarian hate?”
The Syrian civil war started off as a peaceful uprising-two years ago. President Assad’s ruthless internal security forces brutally attempted to crush the peaceful-protest movement- in which hundreds were killed. The UN estimates that 1.6 million Syrians have fled the country and this figure is expected to rise to 3.45 million by the end of the year. Many refugees fear retribution from the Assad regime, were they to return. The UN and other international observers attribute the majority of the violence in Syria to President Assad’s regime.
Mr Griffin also said “Cameron & Hague plan to send UK money & weapons to rebels dominated by Islamist Jihadis like the killers of Lee Rigby.” He also claimed that the Lebanese capital Beirut was “less alien than the streets of London”.
Despite Mr Griffin’s disgust at ‘Islamist Jihadis’, he praised Islamist-Lebanese group, Hezbollah, “the militant group, who helped the Assad regime reclaim the rebel-held city of Qusayr”. Hezbollah is on the US-State Departments list of ‘foreign terrorist organisations’.
By accepting President Assad’s invitation and praising them (the regime) when it reclaims towns and cities, Griffin, has endorsed the regime and its actions. The BNP is an organisation in serious decline and this visit to Damascus-as part of a European Union delegation- was a desperate publicity stunt designed to gain him media attention. The battle for the ground on race hatred, Griffin feels is being won by the English Defence League. When the BNP did their big march in Central London-a few weeks ago- more anti-fascists demonstrators and those who opposed to badger culling turned up in greater numbers than BNP supporters. The visit to Syria will achieve nothing more than demonstrate the how low this man of hatred will go to spew his bile.
