Trinidad’s High Commissioner makes inaugural visit to Liverpool
His Excellency Garvin Nicholas will make his first visit to Liverpool in his capacity as Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. The trip, which takes place today, highlights the High Commissioner’s objective of developing more profound trade and business connections in all major hubs of the United Kingdom. The High Commissioner’s visit was organised by Trinidad-born Liverpool Councillor Natalie Nicholas, who envisions the event as a prime opportunity to establish strong collaborative links.
Councillor Nathalie Nicholas, who is a graduate of OBV’s Councillor Shadowing Scheme said,
I organised this trip because I believe Liverpool is a great city and my country of birth, Trinidad is a great country both of which have investments and development possibilities to offer. I believe as an individual and community activist, I need to develop and build partnerships and look at opportunities that will enhance trade and investment that will benefit our community, city and country."
The High Commissioner will be travelling to Liverpool to engage in talks with the Lord Mayor as well as business entities such as Liverpool Vision and the Chamber of Commerce. Discussion will focus on the myriad commercial and investment opportunities at hand and particularly looks forward to establishing relationships with public and private sector stakeholders.
He remarked,
The city of Liverpool and the government of Trinidad and Tobago share much in common with regard to our mutual emphasis on new business development. In particular, as a leader in maritime commerce, Liverpool can be a key partner in Trinidad and Tobago’s port development initiatives”.
Trinidad and Tobago nationals living in the city will also have the opportunity to meet with the High Commissioner at a Diaspora reception. Meeting with Trinidad and Tobago nationals is high on the High Commissioner’s agenda.
The High Commissioner said,
It is important to me that our nationals abroad feel that they are part of a close-knit Diaspora community. I am appreciative of these opportunities which afford me the chance to interact personally with our nationals, and I am keen to revitalise connections with Trinidad and Tobago nationals who have contributed to Liverpool’s dynamic society”.
The High Commissioner’s visit promises to yield considerable attention for Trinidad and Tobago not only as a highly attractive centre for investment but as a preferred destination for tourism. Nicholas declared,
“It is imperative that we seek new opportunities internationally for our unique and exciting product mix. As a consequence of our stay in Liverpool I anticipate significant interest in our country’s diverse offerings. Our Mission is in a pivotal position to capitalise on these opportunities and build a bridge between Liverpool and by extension, the United Kingdom and Trinidad and Tobago”.
