Copland School: Nurturing future leaders
Despite all the negative reports about Copeland School in Wembley, North London-Former head and others charged with fraud - the students and present staff refuse to be beaten.
On Wednesday, 150 16-18 year olds attended a talk given by the International head of Rock the Vote, Heather Mills, and OBV’s Simon Woolley.
Heather spoke to the students about how young people in America delivered a second term for President Barak Obama:
We registered millions of young people to vote. And do you what,
She said,
they turned out to vote particularly in those key States which sealed Obama’s victory.
Simon Woolley encouraged the students to think big, to see themselves as future leaders, who like Obama could reach the very highest office:
You know many thought some years ago that America wasn’t ready for an African American President. He proved them wrong. Why don’t we prove our detractors wrong and ensure we have a Black Prime Minister within a decade.
The students fantastically responded, many wanting to join OBV and inquiring about Parliamentary internships, such as OBV’s MP shadowing scheme.
Schools such as Eton which have been in the press recently might have the economic muscle to offer its students the very best in academic pursuit, but given all its challenges it would be difficult to find both staff and students with a greater heart and spirit that just simply refuses to be downtrodden.
OBV, for sure, will definitely return to Copeland to further encourage these future leaders of our nation.
