Diamond Jubilee - What's your story?

in

The Diamond Jubilee takes place this year, marking 60 years of The Queen’s reign. Over the last 60 years, the UK has changed dramatically and contributions of the Black community politically, economically and culturally have been significant.

To highlight the changing cultural landscape of the UK since the Queen's accession in 1952, ITV National News’ Shan Allana is working on a series of four short films.

Shan Allana, a News Producer at ITV, is looking for a unique individual of African Caribbean origin to feature in one of the short films. Shan, who has worked on a number of prominent features including Reverend Jesse Jackson, Doreen Lawrence and Lord Ouseley and the family of Trayvon Martin is looking for someone who has witnessed firsthand the changes in the UK during the last 60 years, or whose parents came over in the Windrush or sometime after.

The news article will reveal what it was like to grow up in the UK - the good, the bad and the ugly of life - covering events from Windrush to the Brixton riots – all events which happened during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The contributions of the Black community politically, economically and culturally have been significant. The feature will highlight a person's life which can reflect a cultural shift in the UK - such as in the armed forces, the change in industry, the changing role of women etc.

The filming will take place this week and will involve at least 3-4 hours. Therefore, if you are of African Caribbean origin and born in 1952 – the year of the Queen’s accession, then e-mail Shan Allana
