Celebrate Ghana independence day on Saturday

Voice of Africa, Britain's only licensed African radio station will be hosting Ghana's 55th Independence day celebrations in London this Saturday.

More than 2,000 people are set to attend the 'Kente Affair', said to be London's biggest party to celebrate Ghana's independence, will take place at the Enabling Centre, 640 Ripple Road, Barking IG11 0SR from 8pm until 5am.

A number of high profile individuals including diplomats such as the Jamaica and Ghana High Commissioners, celebrities and V.I.Ps are expected and there will be plenty of stalls with a range of wares and services available.

Providing entertainment on the night will be top artists from the UK and abroad including Diane Hamilton, Daniel Akakpo. Fuse, Triple G, Mama B while DJ Deoba Authentic will be in the house along with a host of live cultural performances from Blema Cultural Troops and poetry performances from Teju the Poet.

A dazzling fashion show by Boutique De L’Afrique will see the latest styles on display.

"The Ghana Independence celebration is not just a Ghanaian affair but a continental and international event. The independence of Ghana in 1957 paved the way for a successive liberation struggle across the continent of Africa and the Caribbean and Ghana was the torch bearer for this freedom movement and Pan Africanism across the world. As part of this celebration we are determined to showcase our rich cultural heritage for the rest of the world to see hence the Kente Affair. This is an opportunity for our thousands of listeners to share our achievements and celebrate this worldwide event with us in a night of fantastic entertainment and in great company."

The Kente Affair will enable the station to engage with its listeners and also give the audience the opportunity to meet their favourite Voice of Africa Radio presenters and D.J’s.

This is an exciting year as the station plans to engage in a wide range of activities to mark its twelfth year in existence. With regular awards and a host of new programmes, the station has also opened its doors to new recruits, sponsor’s and investors and this year the station plans to expand its activities beyond the shores of Britain.
