No to the politics of hate.

Tower Hamlets has a proud tradition of rejecting the politics of hate. When British fascism was on the march more than 75 years it was here in the East end where good people took a stand. Oswald Mosley’s Black shirts were seen off in the infamous Cable St battles.

Today the politics of hate come in the name of the English Defence League. Their brand of thuggery and race hate politics has already caused havoc in towns such as Leicester, Bradford and Luton. They are planning to undertake a provocative and possibly incendiary march through Bethnal Green in a bid to goad Muslims and anti-racists into race and religious violence.

Unite Against Fascism and others have wanted to ensure the East London remains peaceful and are campaigning to ban the EDL from marching through the East End. We at OBV agree,
