BNP local election wipe out

The British National Party has suffered a staggering defeat in the local elections against the back drop of financial trouble and internal fighting.

The party fielded 268 in yesterday’s local elections in England and have been subjected to humiliating losses in Luton, Leeds and Stoke on Trent where they lost all 8 Councillors. The party had used their positions in local government to attempt to introduce a ban on Halal foods in local schools to marginalise the local Muslim communities.

According to the Hope not Hate campaign the BNP vote has collapsed across the country, the party has also failed to make any breakthrough in Wales.

Raising the spectre of further violence in the character of the English Defence League Gary Lucas, defeated BNP candidate in Knowsley said "Ballot box [is] not the answer in this country any more".

Commenting on the results OBV director Simon Woolley said:

“Tremendous work done both by Hope not Hate and United against Fascism campaigns. As a political force the BNP are now on its knees even with the voting system they clearly prefer. I expect the party to blame Griffin's incompetence and break up into factions. We must be aware however, of the rise of street thuggery that will replace their democratic ambitions.”
