BNP attempts to stir up division

Far right members of the BNP in Stoke-On-Trent have called for Halal meat to be taken off the menu at local schools despite pupils stating they enjoyed the food.

The group, which holds four seats on the Council are pushing for a motion to stop the specially prepared meat being served by schools.

Only 17 of the city’s 93 schools offer specially prepared food as part of their school dinner’s provision but this hasn’t stopped BNP Councillor Michael Coleman calling for the meat to be barred from use in local schools claiming that parents have expressed anger that the food is being served without their knowledge. The move to offer the option of Halal meat came after at least 10% of parents backed the move.

The far right opposition to Halal meat was met with ridicule by Community Voice Councillor Peter Kent-Baguley who accused the BNP of “making mischief” against Muslims.  Councillor Kent-Baguley went on to comment that: “The BNP are fiddling while our services burn, and are patently seeking to make trouble.”

Parents have hit out at the BNP motion which goes before the council next week.

Sarah Richardson, whose nine year old son Jordan attends a school with Halal meat on the menu, said: “I don’t see what the fuss is about  Jordan loves the food at school.”

Jordancommented that he “really liked the Halal burgers” and that his “favourite school dinner is curry.”
