Mother hurt in racist acid attack in Salford
Police are searching for a man after a Black woman had acid thrown at her in Salford in what is believed to be a racist attack.
The 29-year-old was treated in hospital for burns to her chest and back after what police believe was a random attack last Thursday afternoon.
The woman was pushing her baby in a pram along the underpass in Broad Street Pendleton when she was approached by a man in his 40s.
He is alleged to have made a sexual and racial comment to the victim, originally from Cameroon, before throwing corrosive liquid over her. Her baby was unharmed.
Det Con Jim Harris, of Greater Manchester Police, said police were treating it as a hate crime.
"This was an appalling attack on a lady who was walking with her very young baby. Thankfully none of the corrosive liquid hit the baby or went on the victim's face as the incident could have been a lot worse than it already is."
He added,
"The offender needs to be caught and held responsible for his actions which have caused a nasty injury to the lady and much distress."
The man was described as being white, of stocky build, 5ft 10in to 6ft 2in tall, had very short, dark hair with a straight hair line and a bald patch at the back. He has blue eyes, a dimple in his chin and a red mark like a burn on his bottom lip.
He was wearing a sleeved dark-grey jumper with a round neck, black tracksuit bottoms with a grey and white stripe down each leg and black trainers.
