Hundreds attend funeral for Lord Tarsem King

in

A who's who of West Midlands politicians showed up to pay respect to Lord Tarsem King, who was the UK’s first Sikh peer.

Lord Tarsem King died suddenly last week after collapsing at Euston station as he was preparing to travel back home.

Lord King headed Sandwell Council for ten years from 1997, in 1999 he became a Lord and Baron King of West Bromwich. Notables such as Keith Vaz MP and Tom Watson MP were there to pay their respects. Tom Watson said:

In all the time I knew Tarsem, he never once raised or uttered a word in anger."

Keith Vaz MP said Tarsem was a “the role model for every Asian politician” and represented

the end of the great pioneers who came with nothing and left with much”.

Lord Tarsem King, is part of our rich multicultural political history. Our young Black scholars must study these and others, write down their stories and ensure they are not fogotten.

REST IN PEACE Tarsem.
