Ex MP Dhanda: Pig's head left outside home
One of Britain’s most prominent Sikh politicians, former Labour MP Parmjit Dhanda told a Parliamentary inquiry into racism during elections, that a pig’s head was left outside his home during one election campaign.
The former MP informed the all-party panel looking into electoral conduct in the UK, that it was his children who found the severed head during the 2010 election campaign where he was fighting to hang on to his seat. One can only assume that the ignorant perpetrator/s thought that Dhanda is a Muslim. Whether he is or not the act is a barbaric act of racism.
Sadly, Dhanda’s not the only BME politician subject to abuse or threats. Former Labour MP, now Baroness, Oona King lets of the numerous death threats she received by Far Right groups, when she was MP for Bethnal Green.
The inquiry is also taking anonymous evidence from gay and lesbian MPs who were the subject of homophobic abuse, and ethnic minority women candidates who were targeted by Muslim fundamentalists.
