Alan Mak: The first MP from Chinese heritage?

in

With less than 100 days before a defining General Election, all the political parties are looking for ways in which they can find the edge to beat their rivals. And with the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Havant, Alan Mak provides the Tories with an history breaking narrative.

With the present MP, David Willetts stepping down as the sitting MP, Yorkshire born Alan Mak who is proud of his Chinese heritage could well become the UK's first MP from a Chinese background. His chances are good given the Conservatives hold a 22k majority in the area.

Alan Mak is not the only Conservatives candidate from a Chinese background to stand for the Conservatives, they have at least another two standing, one in Manchester-Jackson Ng - and the other-Xug Wang- in Liverpool.

This election campaign will also mark the biggest intervention ever seen from the British Chinese community the UK’s national politics. For example, the British Chinese Project will partner with OBV throughout our national voter registration bus tour with special events both in China Town London and Manchester.

Anybody wanting for a more inclusive democratic Government must hope that the historic breakthrough for the first MP of Chinese descent happens sooner rather than later.
